Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Strategy kindly suggested by Remte, thanks!

High XP
This strategy has been built to be as fast as possible.
The strategy takes a while. Sit back, get yourself a warm drink and relax the scenery.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a level 1 level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
This strategy has been flagged as problematic and that makes Shenk sad.
This table shows the level increase for completing the fight with level 25 pets and one carry pet.
Partial level experience is not included in the calculation.

Since above strat DOES NOT work at all, I went, as mentioned in comments, with Anubisath Idol, did as follows:
1. Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies, swap to >>>
2. carry pet, swap to >>>
3. Anubisath Idol - sandstorm (and then on cd) - deflection (when Burrow) - crush as filler. Took ages yet worked perfectly ;) (edited)

There are several variants of this strat, using similar but not identical moves. I have been using one such variant since Mists. In fact, when testing I kept doing it wrong because I am so used to doing it my way.

The strat as written here, and using an Aqua Strider, works, unless Siren's Solar Beam crits (5% chance), or unless the Pump into Toothbreaker crits. The Pump crit has happened to me occasionally. You can still win in that case, but I always have to wake up and think where I am instead of following the strat when it happens.

HOWEVER, as written here today, I see two points of failure:

1. Siren's Sunlight does 165 damage to the backline pets, excluding any family effects. Most Level 1 pets don't have 165 health, and certainly not 248 to be safe against a crit. I suggest a health limit on the levelling pet. I see Remte noted this in the comments long ago.

2. Both of Nishi's first two pets have speeds of 280. The Skimmer/Strider/whatever in the first slot needs speed >280. Some of the possible substitutes offered - Fishy, Sea Pony, P/P Freshwater Crawler - don't. I suggest a speed requirement > 280 in the Slot 1 pet.

Now, about your "Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies". This will happen only if Siren's Solar Beam crits, which as I said is a 5% chance. When you say the strat doesn't work at all, I have to wonder how many times you tried, and whether you looked at your pet battle chat window to see why. It's possible to get unlucky a couple of times in a row, but not common, and always worth figuring out what happened.

P.S. Just as an aftrthought, I'm pretty sure "Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies" can't happen even with a crit from Solar Beam, though I'm not in-game to check now. (edited)

sooo... minimum health is 166; 110 as a critter. i don't go for the 248 in case of a crit since this is rare enough to be tolerable in my opinion. (level 1 H/H pets meet that requirement)
iirc not even a sunbeam crit will kill the strider. i think the few times mine died early was against toothbreaker. and it won't matter that much because toothbreaker runs out of steam very fast anyway (edited)

It's not hard to find. From Auraia on Wowhead

Anubisath (Crush, Sandstorm, Deflection) + two leveling pets.
First sandstorm, next crush, then deflection (solar beam). Crush til deflection off CD, use again. Toothbreaker submerges ASAP, so swap in low levels first two turns (sandstorm protects them). Then roll on with crushing. For Brood, Crush Crush Deflect, repeat.

I'm pretty sure I used some variation of this myself back in Mists, before I had All The Pets.

I do see an Anub and Tonk strat available here, which is probably similar, just using the Tonk to speed up the third kill.

Allowing people to enter their own strats has been a huge success for Xu-Fu's, but it has discouraged people from just leaving their ideas in the comments, which was always one of the site's strengths. It could be done without committing to a sign-up and taking a couple of hours to find their way around the editor and lay out a strat properly.

Everyone and their mother knows about the Anubisath Idol strat. Its been the go-to since MoP was current. I love this site because it often offers faster alternatives. Total XP gained is limited so leveling 2 pets or 1, it doesn't really matter since your net gain in pet XP is the same. Many people have their sights set on getting a specific pet to max level as fast as possible, and alternative 2 pet strats can make this fight go a lot faster since the Idol strat is tedious and long.

As Hermy mentioned, for this strat to work exactly as written you need to have a 1st pet faster then 280speed. If not Toothbreaker will cast Sons of the Root before you can get off the Pump and it will be blocked. Most striders are inherently that way but I tried to use a P/P Freshwater Crawler for added power and it messed up.

I very strongly recommend skipping the Aqua Strider, since it's S/S - that means low health and low power. This strategy and the third alternative are much easier with a P/S Eternal Strider.

DavidG's right though. Eternal Striders are found north-west of Farmer Nishi in the Vale just over the mountain. It takes 35 seconds to reach them from Nishi on a 310% flyer, I timed it.
I'm not sure if you're the same David G that posted the work-arounds below for 1-shotting the elementals but I've written a TDScript that includes them. I'll post it on the alt 3 page tomorrow as I've not tested it fully yet and I've already defeated Nishi today.

Oh maaaaaaan. I've only just remembered this. My WoW install got corrupted and I had to reinstall the entire game. I didn't trust the back-up files either so did the whole thing from scratch. Lost all my ~150 pet teams and scripts. That script took ages to get right as well. >.<
I'll try and get it rewritten and posted today.

I use a similar strat - you can use a L1 pet as long as it's a Magic or Mechanical pet, as their special "things" mitigate the AOE damage, otherwise a L4+ is safe. I never have to restart.

Any Strider/Skimmer that's faster than 280, Darkmoon Tonk and a Level Pet.

Pump
Cleansing Rain
Water Jet until Siren dies

(Toothbreaker comes out)
Pump
Cleansing Rain
Water Jet until Toothbreaker dies

(Brood of Mothallus comes out)
Pump
Swap to Level pet
Swap to Darkmoon Tonk
Ion Cannon

The only problem I've ever had, was that Mothallus had a crit with his first leeching spell, and ended up with more than 1098 HP, but I just nuked him with Shock and Awe once the Tonk had recovered.

Critical strikes by the strider with pump can be worked around. If it crits against Siren, getting a one hit kill, then use the following sequence against Toothbreaker:

1: Pump
2: Pass
3: Cleansing Rain
4: Pump (*)
5: Pump
6+ Water Jet till Toothbreaker dies.

(*) If this pump crits as well, then just Water Jet Brood of Mothallus to 50% health, and then chain pass till you die.

If you don't crit against Siren, but do crit and get a one hit kill with the round 1 Pump vs Toothbreaker, then just as above, Water Jet till either you die, or Brood of Mothallus hits half health, and then chain pass.

Clean up as noted with a Darkmoon Tonk. The one thing to watch for with the Tonk is that you don't want Brood of Mothallus doing an Absorb on the round you Explode, otherwise you risk not killing him.

I usually ensure that doesn't happen by dropping him below 618, and only then casting Decoy. If he does an Absorb on that round, you have the option to cast a single Missile to get him back below 618, after which you can explode safely. With the CD on Absorb, he can cast it the round you Explode, but the Decoy will still be up thatround which will guarantee to block it.

Ugh. Not thinking right when I wrote that. That should be the Darkmoon Zeppelin, not the Tonk, and to be totally honest this comment should be on the page for strategy number 3,

Although the comments about crits with the strider still stand.

I never have to restart the fight and I use the Aqua Strider and Darkmoon Tonk. I do it differently from step 7:
7 - Water Jet
8 - Cleansing Rain
9 - Pump till toothbreaker dies
Blood of Mothallus comes in
10 - Cleansing Rain
Swap to levelling pet
Swap to Darkmoon Tonk
11 - Shock and Awe
12 - Ion Cannon

Works 100% of the time and it's very quick

Hm. Now that I notice, I never have to restart either. I think I got this from Mel's guide, or possibly Rendigar? From memory:

4 - Pump (charging)
5 - Water Jet until Siren dies (usually twice)
6 - Pump into Toothbreaker
7 - Cleansing Rain
8 - Pump (charging)
9 - Water Jet until Toothbreaker dies (usually twice)
Mothallus comes in
1 - Pump into Mothallus
2 - Swap in Level Pet (as Mothallus goes under)
3 - Swap back to Strider, who dies from Mothallus' Burrow
Bring in Tonk
1 - Ion Cannon if in range to kill, otherwise a softener first

Instead of the Darkmoon tonk I use Darkmoon Zeppelin. One Missile and explode. Your EXP pet NEVER has to enter combat and gets all the EXP.

OH! And you can use a level 1+ EXP pet.

Turn 1 Pump
Turn 2 Cleansing Rain
Turn 3 Pump
Turn 4 Pump
Turn 5+ Water Jet until Siren dies
Toothbreaker comes in
Turn 1 Pump
Turn 2 Cleansing Rain
Turn 3 Pump
Turn 4+ Water Jet until Toothbreaker dies
Brood of Mothallus comes in
Turn 1 Pump
Turn 2+ Water Jet until your Aqua Strider dies
Bring in Darkmoon Zeppelin
Decoy or pass, as he goes under ground from Burrow.

You can't use any 1+ pet because there's an AoE in the beginning, and some can't survive that.
Other than that, I can agree.

True. I used level 1 pets twice but I did test it on a few others and yes it will depend on the pet. Level pets Health must be 166+ so most level 3+ and a few under can do this. Also depends if its weak to its Sunlight (Elemental) attack, so a mechanical leveling pet will have to have 250+ health so around level 5+.

Also today Toothbreaker got a crit on my Aqua Strider so my Darkmoon tonk had to do 2 missiles then explode.

I wouldn't be such concerned about mechanical ones as (if we go with no other damage than this one) they resurrect themselves and stay in the battle when unharmed. And magic pets are quite safe too.
You used Zeppelin, of course.

You're all right. :) I've typed an Aqua Strider to eliminate multiple breed issues, and Darkmoon Tonk is just a wildcard for any burst damage performed in two rounds.

Though I prefer crossing Pump and Water Jet dependably on the enemy HP left (and keeping possible damage buffs), if a Pump crits, it's waaay faster. ;-)
